Blind spot detection for Dump truck

Blind spot detection background

A dump truck is used for transporting materials (such as dirt, gravel, or demolition waste) for construction as well as coal. The same as other heavy-duty commercial vehicles, they may all face the same risk---blind spot.

Why the blind spot is dangerous? Generally, the vehicles in front of or right behind the driver are visible in the mirrors. when a car passes into an area where it is not visible in either the rear-view mirror or the side mirror, it is difficult for a driver to be aware that there is a car in close. At this time, when the driver changes lanes believing the lane next to them is empty, then the tragedy happened, it is too close to avoid the collision.

Almost all vehicles are with blind spots and the situation to dump trucks is even severe, since the large size and height make it very difficult for the driver to be able to see the full length of the vehicle. Eliminating the risk of blind spots for dump trucks is vital.

ICARVISIONS AI solution with Blind Spot Detection

Thanks to Artificial Intelligence, Icarvisions offers an AI solution with Blind Spot Detection to help dump trucks with safe driving. The Blind Spot Detection solution is based on the Mobile DVR with a built-in AI algorithm, once the dump truck and mobile DVR are on, the blind spot camera captures the pedestrian and vehicles in the blind spot area, it will trigger the Audio& Visual Alarm to emit a sound and flash alarm or voice prompt immediately, to warn pedestrian and vehicles to keep away of the dump truck.

ICARVISIONS launched 4 AI Mobile DVRs:

4ch IP67 MINI AI MDVR(JH0AN-HD)

4ch SD Card AI MDVR(JS2AN-HD)

4ch HDD AI MDVR(JH4AN-HD)

8ch HDD AI MDVR(JH8AN-HD)

all support the Blind Spot Detection.

The blind spot cameras and Audio& Visual Alarm have to work together with BSD built-in AI mobile DVR.

1080P AHD camera, 2.1mm lens; Support 12V DC ±10%

Installation site: mounted at the side of the cabin

Mounting height: 2.5 meters ~3.0 meters

It must work with the Mobile DVR with such a BSD algorithm module.

Model: JA-MC922

1080P AHD camera, Infrared LED range 25m; Support 12V DC ±10%

Installation site: mounted at the rear side of the cabin

Mounting height: 1.6 meters ~2.0 meters

Model: JA-MC923

Dual lens for front and rear, 1080P AHD camera; 2.1mm lens + 2.1mm lens; Support 12V DC ±10%.

Installation site: Side mirrors

Mounting height: 2.0 meters ~2.5 meters

It must work with the Mobile DVR with such a BSD algorithm module.

The Audio& Visual Alarm with illumination (IP66)

It must work with the BSD cameras.

(IP66, RS485,12V, 5PIN Around aviation G25 connector)

By the AI algorithm, some specific area near the dump truck is determined as a blind spot area, once the pedestrian and vehicles enter that area, the Audio& Visual Alarm will emit a sound and flash alarm or voice prompt immediately.

Blind Spot Detection (BSD) Demonstration

As soon as the alarm is triggered, except for the Audio& Visual Alarm sending out an alarm, the IVMS platform will also generate the BSD report.

Most vehicles are with at least one blind spot, for the dump truck or other heavy-duty commercial vehicles, multiple blind spot cameras may be needed. Let’s Icarvisions tailor the solutions for you.

How does ADAS help drivers drive safely?

1. The background of developing and using ADAS

How to reduce the number of road traffic accidents is one of the main social problems in the world today. According to the World Health Organization, 1.2 million people die and as many as 50 million are injured in road accidents worldwide each year.

With the development of science and technology, vehicles can be equipped with many advanced safety solutions to improve safe operation. Passive safety components such as airbags and seat belts are traditional standard equipment. New vehicles need to be equipped with Advanced Driving Assistance Systems (ADAS) to prevent or reduce accidents.

Many accidents could have been avoided if Advanced Driving Assistance Systems (ADAS) had been used to help drivers, and ADAS 'capabilities are increasing as technology evolves.

2. The concept of ADAS

Advanced Driving Assistance Systems (ADAS) is based on ultra-high lens quality and excellent algorithm, it could reduce the possibility of rear-end collision and other accidents by real-time monitoring of vehicle driving state and intelligent warning of potential dangers in advance.

Advanced Driving Assistance Systems (ADAS) mainly collects environmental data inside and outside the vehicle through various onboard sensors and performs technical processing such as identification, detection and tracking of static and dynamic objects, so that drivers can detect the possible dangers in the fastest time and take corresponding measures to improve the driving safety.

3. The functionality of ADAS

At present, the Advanced Driving Assistance Systems (ADAS) promoted and applied in China mainly include forward collision warning (FCW), lane departure warning (LDW), pedestrian collision warning (PCW), etc.

FCW-Forward Collision Warning

LDW-Lane Departure Warning

PCW-Pedestrian Collision Warning

Advanced Driving Assistance Systems (ADAS) & Driver Status Monitoring (DSM) anti-fatigue driving detection systems are integrated to form an active safety intelligent driving warning solution in China.

For now, China government is pushing the mandatory installation of driver video monitoring and warning equipment for large vehicles like bus/coach/oil tanker and other dangerous chemicals transport vehicles, because it can effectively reduce the traffic accident rate and keep the driving safer and intelligent.

4. ADAS series products developed by ICARVISIONS

The Advanced Driver Assistance System(ADAS) launched by ICARVISIONS is developed based on an AI algorithm to enhance the safety of both the driver and vehicle. Click here to learn JH8AN-HD AI MDVR.

The working theory of the whole system

The ADAS camera & DSM camera are integrated with MDVR with a built-in AI algorithm together. The ADAS camera supports safe distance warning/lane departure warning/forward collision warning/pedestrian collision warning, suitable for the road ahead monitoring; the DSM camera analyzes the fatigue state and the distracted state in real-time by recognizing facial expression features and promptly alerts the driver. The core technology comes from independent research and development, with an international level of visual recognition algorithm engine, which is accurate and reliable.

When the ADAS camera detects the potential collision risk with the vehicle front, the vehicle distance is too close or the unconscious lane deviation or there is pedestrian, the system will remind the driver to take timely measures through the warning tone.

When the ADAS warning event is triggered, the warning information is transmitted to the vehicle management system platform (IVMS). Through the collected warning data of the driver and making in-depth driving behaviour analysis, it reduces the traffic accident rate, improves the operational efficiency.

How to choose between Mobile DVR or Mobile NVR?

How to choose between Mobile DVR or NVR? Picture1

Mobile DVR or Mobile NVR, how to choose?

MOBILE DVR (MDVR, Full name: Mobile Digital Video Recorders) Commonly known as car DVR, it is a device that uses advanced video and audio codec technology to perform digital-to-analog conversion of the video inside and outside the car, and performs compression storage. At the same time, it can perform additional functions such as GPS positioning, audio and video monitoring, and wireless network transmission equipment collectively.

The car hard disk video recorder adopts the high-performance H.264 coding standard, integrates 4G video capture, GPS positioning management and wireless transmission, and integrates 4G wireless communication technology, GPS global satellite positioning technology, and video surveillance technology. It is a new generation of wireless vehicle video surveillance solutions core product. It has powerful audio and video capture, driving data storage and transmission functions, advanced hard disk shockproof, dustproof, and heat dissipation patented technology, all-aluminum heat dissipation design concept, three optional network communication methods, and it is suitable for high-speed sports, severe vibration, unstable power supply, severe interference, dusty and other harsh vehicle Mobile environments, widely used in buses, long-distance buses, taxis, logistics vehicles, private cars, special vehicles (such as cash transport vehicles) and other Mobile environments video surveillance field.

MOBILE NVR (MNVR),The full name is Mobile Network Video Recorder, which is the on-board network video recorder. It encoders or network cameras to complete video recording, storage and forwarding functions.

NVR has different product forms. Although its core function is the capture, storage, management and forwarding of network video streams, different companies have different designs to complete these functions and have their own characteristics. The MOBILE NVR developed by our company is an embedded NVR product, that is, an embedded device based on an embedded hardware platform and operating system. NVR technology application function mode is more flexible and can meet the functional requirements of today's video surveillance system to a large extent. The solution with NVR technology as the core has the advantages of flexible operation, convenient use, economical and practical, etc. Its front end mainly cooperates with high-definition video cameras to support 8-channel 1080P high-definition video image access, and then realizes centralized management of high-definition video image information through NVR technology and real-time storage. In addition, it can also support the remote management of video images, the preview analysis of video images, and the real-time upload of video image data through the gigabit Ethernet port, local preview, and video recording playback.

1. What are the advantages and disadvantages between MOBILE DVR and MOBILE DVR?

MOBILE DVR surveillance system:

Advantages

Disadvantages

Less   expensive than NVR systems

Lower frame rates   and lower image quality than NVR systems

Simplicity,   easier to set up and operate than NVR systems

Requires   extra cables and wires, more complex installation process

Image   quality is improving (for systems using HD over Coaxial technology)

Separate   power source required

MOBILE NVR surveillance system:

Advantages

Disadvantages

Better image quality

Cost, typically NVR systems are more   expensive

More system flexibility

Software can be harder to use

Can be wired or wireless; DVR cannot   be wireless

Can be used to identify faces,   license plates, etc. due to higher image quality

2. When do you choose MOBILE DVR or MOBILE NVR?

*If you already have and use quality analog cameras, the DVR may make more sense. Don’t completely rule out an NVR if its other benefits appeal to you, as it is possible to add an analog-to-IP converter at each camera. You may also be able to create a hybrid system, where analog cameras are in use at some points and IP cameras at others. Why would you want this mix? Analog cameras may be better in low light environments, while IP cameras provide more clarity and an ability to zoom in on an image.

*If you are installing a brand-new security system, the NVR has obvious benefits. It is easier to put in because it uses Ethernet cable and can be partially wireless. IP cameras used with an NVR just need to be on the same network — they don’t have to be wired to a physical system.

*If you have an analog or partial analog system, each camera or component must have its own power source. This makes for more wires, more installation hassles and increased power usage. IP cameras used with the NVR use power over Ethernet (POE) from the recorder so there’s no need for splitters or sockets close by each camera. IP systems also use much less electricity, saving costs.

*The NVR is newer and still more expensive than a comparable DVR system. As it increases in popularity, prices may come down. In particular, the analog cameras used with a DVR are much less expensive than their IP counterparts.
